Opening your home and your heart to homecare
There is no doubt that caregiving can be stressful, exhausting, and frightening for family members who are trying to balance the day to day busyness of life while caring for their senior loved ones. Some seniors prefer to stay in their own homes, but they may need a bit of assistance or support to do so safely and happily. Homecare services offer solutions to bring you peace of mind.
At Senior Homecare by Angels Oakville, ON
our services promote independence to individuals to enable them to live in their home with assistance. We’re here to help our clients in whatever shape works for them. For many of our clients, we offer companion care, and that could include being there to help them get out of the house, go out for a walk, do errands, or help with meal preparation. Our homecare providers help to remove the safety concerns that may be associated with your loved ones being home alone.
One of our clients is in her early 90s, and her daughter came to us concerned that her mom wasn’t meeting her nutritional requirements during meals being on her own. Understanding the daughter’s concerns, we worked together to build a plan and find the right caregiver. Each day, our caregiver arrives to help prepare and stay for meals, but over time, this activity has transitioned beyond just meal preparation to become an enjoyable, social experience for both the caregiver and the client. Today, the children are now seeing their mother flourish, and they are no longer worrying about whether she is eating enough or at all. For me, it is stories like this one from our clients that makes me feel most proud of what we do each day.
If you are reading this, it probably means that you are preparing to look for a care partner to help support your family’s needs. Congratulations - this is a big step forward. Based on my experience, I want to help you understand the role of homecare, how a provider can help you, and determine if homecare services are right for your family. If you have started to meet and interview homecare providers, I encourage you to ask the following questions to help you find the right service provider:
- What do you do?
- What level of support do you think is right for us?
- Can you tell me about the recommended caregiver and their backgrounder?
- When can they start?
- What do they charge?
- When can we meet and interview them?
- What level of support do you think would be best for my loved one?
- How do we ensure a successful transition to homecare?
- How do we measure whether homecare is making a positive difference?
- Can I speak to some of your other clients? Can you provide references?
