Senior Resources in Canada

There are many public and private senior resources in Canada. Here’s a list of some of our favorite service providers, advocacy groups, and information networks that specialize in particular illnesses, needs, or audiences.

Veteran Affairs Canada

Veterans can receive many resources including VAC financial support for the costs of long-term care. Eligibility is determined by service, health needs, and other factors, so contact the VAC to learn more about your individual situation. Veterans and their family members and caregivers can also access mental health support and services over the phone.

Alzheimer Society Canada

Right now, over 500,000 Canadians have Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia. That number is expected to double by 2038. For information dedicated to those experiencing degenerative cognitive diseases, check out the Resources section of their website.

Canadian Dementia Action Network

Another great resource for families dealing with Alzheimer’s and dementia diagnoses, the Dementia Action Network is dedicated to research, advocacy and resources for families and community members. Because many patients impacted by these diseases are seniors, the Action Network isn’t solely for seniors but is a great provider of senior resources in Canada.

Parkinson's Society of Canada

Since 1965, Parkinson Society Canada has provided education, support services, advocacy and funding for research on behalf of over 100,000 Canadians coping with this brain disease every day.

Canadian Cancer Society

While not dedicated specifically to seniors, the Canadian Cancer Society offers community-based resources that can serve survivors of all ages, family members, and care providers. Their mission is to improve the quality of life of all people living with cancer.

Heart and Stroke Foundation

This volunteer-based charity works to support research and its applications toward eliminating heart disease and stroke, while also promoting healthy living and advocating for all those impacted by these diseases. They offer healthy lifestyle tips that can be followed by individuals of all ages and lifestyles.

Osteoporosis Canada

Founded to give a voice to the patient’s perspective in osteoporosis treatment, research, and education efforts, this group offers resources for patients of all ages. Take their online osteoporosis assessment to learn more about how to reduce your risk or manage your symptoms.

The Arthritis Society

One in five Canadians lives with arthritis. The Arthritis Society provides support, resources, and education around arthritis, and promotes the best care and treatment solutions for all patients as well as senior resources in Canada.
